Our Diapers and how it works

At DYCLE, our system is created with a unique goal: to return to the earth what we take from it. Our diapers, crafted with care, are a crucial part of a circular process. By focusing on the final objective, enriching the soil, we ensure that every diaper, once used, contributes to the regeneration of natural ecosystems. Through this closed-loop system, we work towards a future where waste is no longer a burden but a resource that nourishes the planet.

Materials and Benefits

Dycle inlays are by design completely free of glue and chemical additives. This ensures safety for babies’ delicate skin and purity for the composting process.

• Natural plant based fibers form the absorbent core, delivering effective performance while remaining fully compostable. No cutting trees neccessary.

• Cellulose sheets on the top and bottom ensure a soft, breathable layer towards the skin.

• No synthetic elements, free of fossil oil.

• We use natural fibers from european or regional agriculture and keeping our carbon footprint low.

How it works

1. Use of Diapers

Parents receive all they need: bio-based diaper inserts that easily fit in reusable outer covers. Each participating family is given a user-friendly collection kit. This kit enables odorless and hygienic storage of used diapers until collection, making it easy to participate in the cycle from home.

2. Collection of Used Diapers

Families bring their used inserts to local collection points. These hubs also serve as community touchpoints, where families can connect, share experiences, and support each other in everyday sustainable habits. Link to community

3. Natural Transformation: Composting

With the collaboration of our trusted partners, collected diapers go through a natural breakdown process, starting with fermentation and followed by composting. This method turns used materials into healthy, living compost, regularly quality controlled and tested.

4. Transformation into Terra Preta

The collected material is processed and upcycled into Terra Preta, a powerful, carbon-rich soil substrate. Known for its long-lasting fertility, Terra Preta helps retain water, support plant growth, and restore soil health

5. Planting with Purpose

This fertile soil is ideal to plant fruit and nut trees to support urban gardening projects, turning baby waste into a resource for local food production and biodiversity. Scientific trials in agriculture are undertaken to show the value and practicality for farmers as well.

6. Harvest and Nourishment

The resulting fruits and vegetables are healthy and local, closing the loop by potentially being used to make baby food or juice for the same community.

7. A Complete Circular System

From diaper to soil to fruit and back again, the DYCLE system turns a major waste stream into a regenerative cycle,  one that not only reduces emissions but also reconnects families with nature and each other.

What I liked best was the simple use, that the insert fits very well into the cover, that you just have to insert it, that you generally have to wash less, and the smell of the charcoal, sprinkling it each time. There was no unpleasant smell, I found that very nice.

My experience was that it was very good for the skin of my little son, he’s two and a half months old, and I had a bit more effort. ... But I think that this extra effort is justified, because something good comes out of it.

My experience with the Dycle inlays was actually very good, they absorbed well, there were of course a few initial difficulties with them, but all in all I was positively surprised at how easy it is to implement.

I could simply use it, put it into the bucket, like a disposable diaper, and then it was done. No washing, it was great.
Denise, mother of Thea, 6 months old
I find it interesting that from a product that often just means waste, suddenly something can be made that doesn’t end up as waste, but something new can arise from it.
It’s simply a cycle where nothing is left over.

Elimination Communication

Elimination Communication (EC) is a gentle way of responding to your baby’s natural need to pee or poop, just like you do when they’re hungry or sleepy. Among these basic needs, going to the bathroom actually happens the most, newborns can pee more than 20 times a day! EC means tuning in to your baby’s signals and helping them go without always relying on diapers.

It’s not about pressure or perfection, it’s about building trust and enjoying the process together.

We are offering an 5-weeks Online Class about Elimination Communication in July
